Figuring out exactly what legal steps you need to take to get married in the Caribbean can be a daunting task. There is so much information out there and deciphering fact from fiction can even give the pros a headache. I always tell my clients to contact the tourist board of their destination island for the most up-to-date info. As of January 8, 2007 passports are required for every island. Another important step to take is to check the operating hours of any government office that you need to register with. Although the governments of each island set the minimum time required to be on the island before you can legally marry, many hotels require that you arrive earlier, so be sure and check your hotel's requirements as well. Take the time to make a few extra phone calls and avoid a planning disaster!
