{Wedding Trends}: The Color of 2011

Keeping track of hot trends in the wedding industry is my job, and I know that our Brides count on us to be in the know when it comes to all things weddings. So, here is a no-so-new-one that I own you...
Last December, the good people at Pantone released their pick for the 2011. I was thrilled to see Pantone’s announcement for the 2011 Color of the Year (do you want to see 2010 color of the year? click here). For those of you not familiar with Pantone, they are the authority on color. Their incredible system for matching and communicating colors is used by professionals in areas as diverse as graphic arts, paint, and industrial design.
So what color did they crown as the "it" color this year? Honeysuckle! This reddish pink with a bit of a blue undertone is juicy and full of life. Some of you may be tempted to call this Mauve! But I think this color has a lot more warmth and energy than the 80′s no-no.
Pantone describes honeysuckle as “encouraging and uplifting,” adding that, “it elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.”
So what does this have to do with your wedding? Well, honeysuckle will be everywhere this year! And it’s a great color to center your wedding around. Bright and vibrant, it will infuse your day with an added boost of festiveness.

I predict that we will see lot of Honeysuckle touches at El Paso and Las Cruces weddings this year, including Bride’s shoes, Bridesmaids’ dresses, place settings, reception details and even honeysuckle itself in floral arrangements. Here is an inspiration board I created around this lovely color. What do you think? Will you include Honeysuckle in your wedding design this year?

Color Inspiration: Khaki and Black

I was looking through my archives to help someone with a color inspiration question the other day, and I came across this board that I originally posted in 2009. I really love the simplicity and the preppy vibe, and the colors could translate to any season!

Insipration: Vintage

Vintage is so on-trend. And I'm not the only one who think so. My friend the Bride Chic created this beautiful vintage Inspiration Board that will easily fit in our latest issue. Love it!

Blue and Green Wedding Inspiration

One of my favorite blogs is A Thing For... There isn't any text or stories, in fact there are few words at all. But the inspiration boards posted there are all so lovely that I've looked through the entire blog more than once. I thought the board above would be a perfect starting point for a wedding - isn't that headpiece fabulous?

Inspiration Board: Yellow, Gray and Dusty Pink

A few weeks ago I received an email from a reader who is planning a vineyard wedding. While she wanted to use a yellow and gray palette, she also wanted to incorporate some pink into the day to add in a garden-esque vibe. It was a little hard to find images to fit into the palette but I have to say that I love the results! I've always been a fan of yellow and gray, but normally I've seen more of a marigold shade so I really like the light buttery yellow in this board. What do you think? Are any of you using a similar palette?

Après Ski Wedding Inspiration

Happy Monday, friends! Even though the warm weather is (finally) starting to appear, I know a lot of you are in the midst of planning winter weddings. So, when I got an email from a reader asking for a little help with her après ski inspired nuptials, I thought I would share what I came up with in case it can help some of you as well!

The image in the middle was provided by the bride, and is the inspiration behind their invitations. They plan to have guests sign a pair of antique skis in lieu of a guest book but I thought it would also be fun to have some hanging above the escort card table, like the picture on the top right. The boutonniere photo is made of cinnamon sticks, so it smells as good as it looks! What do you think? Are any of you planning winter weddings?

Inspiration Session: Woodland Spring Wedding

This adorable inspiration session took place near Glacier National Park in Kalispell, Montana - the perfect setting for a small soiree in the woods. I really love the way the bright pink and teal palette stand out in the muted surroundings, and if there was every a proper place to incorporate some bird related elements this is certainly it! Of course the damask and the mason jars are fabulous, but there are so many simple elements that make this inspiration session stand out which would be easy to incorporate into your own event.

The bride's necklace is so simple but so bold that it really makes a statement, and I love that the groom isn't wearing a standard white shirt. The plaid looks fabulous with that gray vest and jacket! And check out that silverware, simply tied together with a small piece of ribbon...genius. Thank you to Sharon and Sara of Serendipity Events for creating the idea and pulling together all of the elements for the session, and to Alicia Brown for all the lovely photos!

Inspiration Board: Garden Party

Happy Friday, friends! Gia of Flights of Fancy is back for one last installment of her gorgeous inspiration boards and this one is (of course) just as beautiful as the rest!

Hello WTR readers! It's been an absolute pleasure visiting you for the past 4 weeks and I hope you've enjoyed my bits of inspiration as much as I've enjoyed creating them!

This week over at betsywhite I worked on invitations for what I think will be a gorgeous wedding. It will be held in the gardens of a private residence and it seems as though it will be equal parts posh, pretty, warm and enchanting. I'm not sure what the bride's plans are for the decor but I thought I would dream up my own version of her wedding :) Enjoy!

Inspiration Board: Bright and Whimsical

We're back with another lovely inspiration board created by Gia of Flights of Fancy! I have to say, I think this is one of my favorites so far...

Happy Friday everyone!

I have been completely obsessed with the work of Katie Daisy ever since learning about her Etsy shop The Wheatfield via Love Obsess Inspire a couple months ago. Her patterns, prints and illustrations are so bright, cheery and optimistic... I can't help but feel happy when I look at them!

Katie's "Look Within" print was the inspiration behind this board. I think it would be wonderful to have a summer wedding which mirrors the bright, whimsical feeling of the illustration. Enjoy!

Inspiration Board: Paris Romance

Once again, we have the lovely Gia from Flights of Fancy joining us today for a little wedding inspiration! I can't say I am normally a fan of pink, but this board is truly an exception. And that image of the Eiffel Tower is fabulous!

Hello everyone! Gia from Flights of Fancy here.

Today's board was completely inspired by these gorgeous images of Paris I found over on The Cherry Blossom Girl. I love the soft, romantic quality of the photos and I thought how lovely it would be to have a small romantic wedding in Paris! The look of the wedding would emulate the feel of the Paris images: soft, ethereal and ever so pretty. Enjoy!

Spring Soiree Inspiration Board

Happy Friday, my friends! I am really excited to share today's post with you, from the lovely Gia at Flights of Fancy. I have been a fan of her amazingly creative inspiration boards for quite awhile now, so you can imagine how happy I was when she agreed to create some for us! I'll be sharing them over the next several weeks, so be sure to show Gia some love if you like what she's creating. Maybe we can collectively talk her into hanging around for a bit longer :)

Hello everyone! I'm Gia from Flights of Fancy and betsywhite stationery. I'm so thrilled that Darci has invited me to visit you for the next four weeks to share a little inspiration!

Since Spring has officially sprung, I thought I would start with a board designed for a Spring Soirée. Last week I created a Spring Bridal Shower board and I think this would be a great look for the same bride's wedding. Similar colors could be used (pale peach and a light seafoam blue/green) but a bit of black could be added to anchor the pastels so the groom doesn’t feel overwhelmed by the ‘girlyness’. I imagine this wedding taking place in a lush garden with lots of romantic, vintage-inspired details. Bridesmaids in short dresses with floral prints would be fun, unexpected and prefect for spring, don't you think?

Betsywhite

I love stationery...a lot. All of the paper products for our wedding were some of my favorite elements, and my husband will be forever annoyed by the giant "stationery & paper" box that takes up part of our closet. In the course of writing the blog I am introduced to a lot of stationery designers, but in my top five favorites will always be Gia of Betsywhite. And I would be lying if I didn't admit that I love her blog just as much!

Gia just released a few new designs for Betsywhite, and in the process she shared the inspiration boards behind each of the designs. Its truly part of the reason I love her blog so much...her inspiration boards are divine! The new design above is called Emmy, and here is the inspiration behind it:

So lovely! Another one of my favorite designs is called Aubrey...here she is along with the inspiration board:

Shall we discuss how much I wish that barn with the green door was in the vicinity of my wedding? ((Sigh)) You can find several more wonderful designs on the Betsywhite website, and be sure to check out Flights of Fancy as well. Beautiful work, Gia!

Quick Palette: Chartreuse and Blue

This is such a fabulously glamorous picture, perfect inspiration for a color palette! I love green and blue paired together and this is such a great twist on the two shades.

Inspiration Board: Yellow, Gray and Blue

A few weeks ago I got an email from a reader, requesting help with her inspiration board. Her primary colors will be yellow and gray but she also wanted to incorporate pops of blue. I would have never thought of this combo myself but I really like it! What do you think?

Quick Palette: Gray and Green

Speaking of gray and green (in today's earlier post) I am loving these muted tones. I think the combination transcends seasons and could work anytime of the year. Hope you like it and I wish you all a happy weekend!

Quick Palette: Olive and Black

Both of today's quick palette posts feature marimekko wall coverings, found via Design*Sponge. I've always loved marimekko patterns and obviously these olive and black shades are close to my heart. I've yet to get sick of that color combination (although I do have to say that I am favoring green and gray these days). Stay tuned for one more quick palette later this afternoon!
