A Real Destination Wedding Packed with Great Ideas!

I spotted this wedding over at Martha Stewart Weddings. It took place in Destin, Florida and had so many great highlights I wasn't sure what to feature! 

Love the simple decor - really it is all that was needed on a gorgeous white sand beach:

Local artwork was displayed throughout the reception:

I love that the groomsmen found a beautiful boat to host their group shot. This gives a positive meaning to getting married at this hotel, which is adjacent to a marina. I'm sure you could find a boat owner to let you use their boat for a few photographs.

The favor was a lovely cobalt blue candle with a personalized matchbox - what a smart pairing:

This is my favorite idea... using sparklers, the wedding party spelled out the bride & groom's name and it worked! Lovely!

Spotted - Love Savers

Candy Buffets are a huge trend at weddings right now. They won't really work in the Caribbean due to the hot temps and high humidity. However, you could still implement a sweet element into your event in the form of custom wrapped Lifesavers candy... I think they are one of the hardier candies and will put up a good fight against the elements. I spotted these at Project Wedding in this slideshow of favors. With a little research, you will find companies able to custom wrap them for you. Enjoy!

Beach Wedding Fans

I love this idea. I did it. We bought a bushel of sea grass fans, tied a little ribbon to each one, and handed them out to our guests as they arrived at our ceremony. It is hot in the Caribbean, after all. Your guests will appreciate any thoughtful notion you can offer to battle the tropical heat. These fans from My Personal Artist are super cool. A little DIY - but you can do it.

Martha Stewart Features a Destination Wedding

While this wedding did not take place in the Caribbean, rather Sea Island, Georgia, many of these great ideas could be adapted for a Caribbean Destination Wedding...

Candy...candy...candy...

Candy is an easy favor choice for Caribbean Destination Weddings! (not chocolate, of course, it would melt!) Beach themed favors are easy to come by... just about any small item can have a seashell glued on and be a great favor - but many people would appreciate something consumable just as much!

Two of my favorite sources for candy are the Nostaglic Candy Company... take a ride back in time and pick a few of your childhood favorites. Bag them up in a glassine bag from Darly Bird.

Plantable Beach Theme Seed Favors

I am super excited because for years I have been looking for this exact item! While a Caribbean Destination Wedding is the perfect solution for many brides wanting an affordable wedding and picture perfect backdrop, it is not always the best solution for a bride wanting to gift her guests with heavy or bulky favors since everything must be carted down on the plane. (I don't recommend shipping items in advance for fear of them being held up in customs, requiring a hefty duty.)

The trend of plantable favors started a few years ago but most were seedlings of trees not allowed to cross foreign borders or crafted in the shape of wildflowers or butterflies, lacking a beach wedding connection. A wonderful little company, Swallow Tail Farms has filled the gap and created plantable favors with a beach theme available in sets of 25 for $19.95. These favors rock because they weigh almost nothing and will fit in any suitcase, no matter how small.

Afterthought - while writing this post, I recalled sending an organic teddy bear to my little cousin in New Zealand and how it was confiscated in customs because it contained seeds - not allowed to enter New Zealand. I tried to find information on seeds entering Caribbean islands and could not. However, the favors appear to be paper, not seeds so I am assuming they would be allowed.
